High speed photography is defined as the science of taking photos of a very fast event. Time lapse photography could be considered as its exact opposite. Those who are into high speed photography can see things that nobody else has seen before. They have taken great images of a bullet emerging from the side of an apple, with the fruit core just starting to explode and the bullet appearing as clearly as if it is held in your hand. Environment and nature publications often show photos of birds that are frozen in mid-air – so clear you can count the feather on the wings. Similarly, you can see high speed photography of wine glasses shattering, water droplets hitting a surface and water balloons popping. These are things that you will not see no matter how hard you look, except through high speed photography.
